PLAXEDES Wenyika without doubt one of the biggest female names in Zimbabwean music industry,probably one female Songbird whose voice carries and invokes Soulful,emotional and sentimental Ballads,she has come a long way from a simple primary school girl in 1987 to an accomplished diva 20 years later.
Born in 1980,she attended St David’s Bonda Girls HighSchool in Mutare between 1993 and 1998 and it was during this time that she started singing after auditioning for the school choir.She is A graduate of the University of Zimbabwe, who holds a Bachelor of Science,honours degree in Economics, her inspiration in music was from her grandmother Nelia Muzambi.
"I started singing when I was in form one and that is also when I started composing songs but the love of music was within me maybe right from the day I was born," said Plaxedes.She says noone in her family has the talent of singing;but she seems to have the talent from her maternal grandmother who was a distinguished singer.
Her musical ambitions kept burning even when she was studying for her degree,but the dream only came true when Delani Makhalima established Galaxy Records where she recorded her first songs such as “Ndiwe Wega” and “Wadarirei”,Which were part of her 2002 Debut Album Tisaparadzane.
Plaxedes says "she only added a few lyrics and other things to Tisaparadzane and Wadarirei to make the songs more spicy but it was the Magic of Delani Makhalima [Executive Producer] and Carlos Jongwe's ideas that she used. Plaxedes was the first to walk out and subsequently formed her own recording studio, Anthem Records together with her husband-cum-manager Nika Joka.
Colloborations: Ivy Kombo, the late Jackie Madondo who was a member of the Zimbabwe Assemblies of God in Africa (ZAOGA) and Fortune Matenga as “Ruvhuvhuto Sisters”, the outfit that released the song “Come to Victoria Falls – Down in Zimbabwe”. She has also worked with the likes of David Chifunyise on the song Kwayedza,Sanii Makhalima On the song Pasina Iwe,Roy and Royce,Tongai Moyo,Arthur Marime,Flash Gordon who produced the last album sentiments and many other artistse.
on October 27 2005, Her song Let Me Go was featured on the compilation album Famba Zvakanaka - Hamba Kahle Music CD fromInternational Organization for Migration (IOM).
2006 -Her chart topping album titled Sentiments was released ,the superb piece inluded hits like Ronga Imwe the first single from the album,which also had a video.Plaxedes Wenyika worked with producers Delani Makhalima ,Native Flash, Mac Dee, Take 5, TBA and Tony G.
